OBX Beach & Weather App Privacy Policy
Privacy information specific to OBX Beach & Weather for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, compatible Apple-silicon Macs, and Android.

OBX Beach & Weather does not display third-party advertising and does not sell personal information.
Information the app uses
The app retrieves weather, forecast, Beach Score, ocean-safety, surf, tide, water-temperature, alert, history, and related information over encrypted network connections. Requests necessarily include ordinary Internet connection information such as IP address, timestamps, and technical request details.
Preferences stored on your device
Your selected beach, unit choices, widget preferences, notification preferences, cached weather responses, and similar settings may be stored locally on your device so the app can work smoothly and continue to show recent information when a network request is unavailable.
OBX Beach Advisories & push registration
On supported Apple devices, if you enable OBX Beach Advisories and allow notifications, the app registers for Apple Push Notification service (APNs) and sends limited technical registration information to OBX Beach & Weather: a random installation identifier, the app-specific APNs device token supplied by Apple, the APNs environment, the beach or beaches you selected for advisories, and the advisory categories you chose. A random per-installation secret authenticates registration requests. This information is used to deliver the notifications you requested and is not used for advertising or cross-app tracking.
Notification security & rich media
The APNs device-token registry is protected on the OBX Beach & Weather server; device tokens are encrypted at rest and the per-installation authentication secret is stored as a one-way hash. Apple processes notification delivery through APNs under Apple's privacy practices. If a rich notification includes an image, the device may retrieve that image from an HTTPS address, and the image host may receive ordinary network request information.
Apple Watch companion
The Apple Watch companion can display OBX Beach & Weather information and can receive notifications through Apple's normal iPhone/Apple Watch notification routing. It does not create a second OBX APNs enrollment. Weather, tide, preference, and cached app data may also be stored on the Watch or in the app's Apple shared-container storage as needed for Watch features, widgets, and complications.
Location
The app is organized around user-selected Outer Banks communities. The native Android app does not request precise or approximate Android location permission for normal operation. Where a platform or browser feature offers device-location selection, it is controlled by that platform's permission system. Third-party Internet services may infer an approximate location from an IP address.
Live beach cam / YouTube
The Surf Cam uses an embedded YouTube player. When you open or use that player, YouTube/Google may receive technical information such as IP-derived approximate location, interactions with the player, diagnostics, cookies or similar browser/device identifiers, and other information described in Google's privacy policies. OBX Beach & Weather does not receive a YouTube account password or maintain a profile of your YouTube activity.
Widgets & background refresh
Widgets, complications, and background refresh use operating-system features and locally stored app data to keep OBX Beach & Weather information reasonably current. They may periodically make HTTPS requests for updated weather, tide, alert, and related data, subject to iOS, watchOS, iPadOS, macOS, or Android controls.
Analytics, advertising & tracking
The native OBX Beach & Weather app does not include an OBX advertising network, behavioral advertising SDK, or OBX user-account analytics profile. The push-registration information described above is used for app functionality, not advertising or tracking across other companies' apps or websites. Embedded third-party content, including YouTube, may process usage and technical data under the third party's own terms and privacy practices.
Retention, deletion & notification choices
OBX Beach & Weather does not maintain a server-side user account or personal user profile for normal app use. Push-registration information is maintained only as needed to provide enabled OBX advisories. If you turn off OBX Beach Advisories or revoke notification permission, the app requests removal of that device registration from the OBX server; if the device is offline, it retries the unsubscribe when connectivity returns. Locally stored preferences and cached data can be removed using device app-data controls or by uninstalling the app. Data processed independently by Apple, Google/YouTube, hosting providers, or other third-party services is subject to those services' own retention and deletion practices.
Security
Production weather, app-data, and push-registration requests use HTTPS. Sensitive push-provider credentials are not included in the app. No Internet service can be guaranteed completely secure, but OBX Beach & Weather uses encrypted transport and server-side safeguards appropriate to the limited technical information used for these features.
Children
The app is a general weather and beach-information service and is not designed to collect personal information from children or to provide child-specific accounts or social features.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated as app features, providers, or legal requirements change. The effective date above identifies the current published version.
